My name is Dan. Or Thane, which is my middle name. You
can call me Dirty Side Dan.
I used to be a bass player but I've since recovered.
I don't play an instrument anymore. I make noises with
my face instead.
I think what I love the most about Dirty Side Down is
the way they treat me as an equal. They tell me to go
to hell just as much as they tell each other to. So that
is comforting.
I was never in Petty Theft, but in the past I have BEEN
petty, and I have COMMITTED theft.
Everything good about metal is the same exact thing that
became bad about it. All music walks this same fine line
so relax.
I am a total clothing whore. I'll wear anything and try
any look. Except flannel shirts and ripped jeans. And
maybe rayon.
My musical influences range from Rob Halford to Sabbath-era
Ozzy to Neil Diamond to Dennis DeYoung to Geoff Tate,
with a little Billie Holiday and Roger Daltrey sprinkled
about. This is not to say I am on their level, but theirs
is the level I strive for. Sometimes I succeed. Sometimes
I just suck.
Johnny Cash may be the coolest motherfucker who ever
lived and ever will.
Country music on the radio sucks now, but it didn't always,
even under all the rhinestones at least they had something
to say. There are still good country bands out there
but you'll never hear them. When did all these teenagers
take over American country music?
To say that Kenny G is JAZZ is to say that Faith Hill
is BLUES.
My personal philosophy is to always try it, no matter
what you think will happen. Whether it is a song I want
to cover, or a sexual position, or an attempt at fashion,
or a strange and new exotic food. Most people on their
deathbed regret the things they DIDN'T try rather than
the things they DID.
Sorry but Kurt Cobain was a coward.
